Description: | Hans BRÜCKNER (Univ. Giessen) Peptaibiomics: From Fungal Biodiversity to Membrane-active Polypeptides and Peptide Drugs Seminar room 1 host: Kyriakos Petratos Abstract: Amphipathic fungal polypeptides containing the non-protein amino acid alpha-aminoisobutyric acid (Aib) are unique with regard to an abundance of bioactivities comprising antibiotic and transmembrane-channel forming properties. For these peptides the acronym 'peptaibiotics' has been proposed, meaning peptides containing Aib and showing biotic activities. Owing to their non-ribosomal synthesis by megaenzymes, an array of peptides is produced simultaneously. Determination of the entirety of structures in the course of the synthesis is the subject of peptaibiomics. |
