Description: | Speaker: Dr. Vangelis Sakkalis Affiliation: Institute of Computer Science – Foundation for Research and Technology (ICS - FORTH) Title: Integrating in vitro/in vivo experiments and imaging techniques with computational models to enhance personalized tumor growth predictions Location: Computer Science Department, room A115 (ground floor), Voutes Time: 16:00 Language: English Abstract Tumors are complex biological systems to understand, mimic/ reproduce in a lab, predict and cure. They involve many biological processes (i.e. signal cascades, gene, regulation, metabolic alterations, neovascularization, ECM remodeling, adhesion and biomechanical forces, invasion) that span in different spatial and temporal scales, while being highly heterogeneous and adaptive. This talk will highlight the current advantages and challenges of employing computational models in the study of cancer, ways of improving our current understanding or even better guide a patient-tailored therapeutic intervention.
